Driving and Texting

Since I have this pedestal in which to convey my thoughts, or maybe just rant a little, here is my latest observation…

While driving, I have noticed that the majority of people seem to forget they are behind the wheel. Does this sound familiar to you? We have been driving around with cell phones for several years now and now many of us are texting and surfing the web while driving. This drives me crazy!
Hey, don’t get me wrong - I love technology! Video game systems, laptop computers, portable DVD players, ipods, cell phones- it’s all awesome! I make calls on my cell, and I also text, but I make a conscious effort to not do these while I am driving. Just today, I saw a lady driving on Hurstbourne Lane. She was not driving slow by any means, and she kept veering over into my lane… because she was busy texting! Aaaaaarrgghhh! Put the phone down and watch what you are doing! Pleeeaassee! Maybe she has never watched any of those movies in driver’s ed that talk about paying attention to what you are doing because you may kill someone?
Anyway, here are a few tips I thought I would share with you:

Drive defensively - Know what the other driver is up to, because they may not.
Increase your distance - Don’t ride the bumper of the car in front of you.
Put the phone down - Friends don’t let friends text and drive.
Make your children mind - Don’t be afraid to put the fear of God into them.
Don’t watch movies while you are driving - Yeah, you know you have done it!

These simple things may help you avoid calling to report an accident.

Since we are having this lovely weather in Kentucky and Indiana, I thought I would share some insights on what happens when a tree falls (wether you are there to hear it or not).

First of all, it does not matter who's tree it is, it matters who's stuff it falls on! For example: your neighbor's tree falls during a storm.. it falls on your house and causes considerable damage to your roof. It's storming and rain is coming in through the new opening that has been created by this tree. So now not only is your roof damaged, but your carpet is getting soaked, your bed is starting to look like a waterbed, your bedroom suit is now ruined and your flat-screen TV that you just bought because the old one was just too big and took up too much room now looks like the screen is melting. So what happens? It has to be repaired and replaced! Do you have that kind of cash in your bank account? Your insurance company does..

Well you call your insurance agent, not your neighbor's insurance agent! Why? Because it your insurance policy that is going to pay for these damages! Yes it's true. I have seen neighbors get in fist fights over these types of things! They believed that their neighbor's insurance policy should pay for the damages, and quite honestly I can see how someone would feel that way. However, this is the way insurance is set up, you are covering your belongings or as I like to say "stuff". Your neighbor has a policy for his stuff and you have one for yours.

This is what we are here for, to make you "whole" again. We are here to replace your bedroom suit, replace that flat-screen TV and repair that newly formed skylight in your roof! This is why you pay those insurance premiums.. to fix or replace your stuff. You may think of your insurance policy as a piece of paper that sits in a file somewhere, but I prefer to think of it as a blanket.. something that covers and protects you.
